From the Top is a track written by Andre Forbes. I am really proud of this track especially pulling off the behind the back trick during a fill. It’s always been a goal of mine to find songs that are challenging that you really have to think about to get through it. But once you got the part down why not try to make it entertaining for the people out there watching. I hope you enjoy watching this as much as I did playing it!

What can I say, Demi Levato is my girl. One of the most talented female vocalist out there. This song brings the heat so I had to as well. Playing covers are cool, but making them your own is what I’m all about.
Every time I go back and watch this I still can’t believe I won the 2007 Guitar Center Drum Off. So many hours of practice went into building this drum solo. This competition absolutely changed my life. Not just winning, but knowing that with hard work, focus, and dedication, dreams do come true. This competition had many stages to get to the grand finals held in Hollywood, CA but the journey there was the most exciting time of my life. Before the Drum Off I never really left West Virginia. Before I knew it I was getting Limo rides, flying in airplanes, and meeting my drum idols. I’ll always have a special place in my heart for Guitar Center holding these drum competition because it truly changed my life, giving me the confidence and motivation to move to Nashville, TN to pursue my dreams of becoming a professional drummer.
Drum Solo
July 1, 2009
Moments before this performance, Chad Smith from the Red Hot Chili Peppers came up to me and said, “You got some serious balls being the only drummer here to play a drum solo at the Buddy Rich Memorial Concert.” I’ve never been so nervous in my life leading up to this performance but having one of the most epic rock drummers of all time tell you this moments before walking on stage didn’t help my nerves whatsoever. I did however use it as fuel to let the moment sink in and realize that I am here because I’m good enough to be here. To be invited to the Buddy Rich Memorial was the biggest honor I’ve ever had as a drummer and to share the stage with the likes of Neil Peart, Terry Bozzio, Chad Smith, and more made it even more unforgettable.
